Potion Making

For the last two weeks, Cedar Class have been taking inspiration from Harry Potter and inventing some new potions!

We have had potions for: invisibility, strength, speed, love, mind-reading, improving skills, werewolves and even a Spiderman potion!

We have written explanation texts telling people what our potions are for and how they work. We also wrote instructions for how to make them and set them out as flow charts. Mrs Ceairns showed us how to make our paper look really old by using a tea bag. This was so much fun but slightly messy.

Here we are making our potions.

As we followed our instructions, we put our ingredients (which included Dragon's Blood, Snake's Venom and Scarab Beetle Juice) into small potion bottles.

Finished tanzuku wind chimes

Last week, we designed and painted our wind chimes for our tanzuku poems to hang from.

We used symbols for peace as well as Japanese writing to decorate our wind chimes.

Now they are all ready to be displayed at Coventry Cathedral!

Here are just a few...

Science Particle Demonstration

Today, we started our new Science Topic all about 'States of Matter'.

We learned about solids, liquids and gases and how their particles are arranged. In groups, we demonstrated the particles to the rest of the class to see if they could guess what state we were supposed to be.

See if you can work out what each group was demonstrating.

Solids - the particles are close together in a formation and move very slightly
Liquids - the particles are close together but have a small amount of space to move around
Gases - the particles are spread far apart and move randomly

Peace Poems

Recently, Cedar Class have been thinking about the themes of peace and reconciliation. After our visit to the Cathedral, and our visit from the Noh theatre project, we have written poems around the theme of peace.
These poems will be displayed as a traditional Japanese tanzuku wind chime outside Coventry Cathedral.

Here are some of the children reading their poems. I'm sure you'll agree they are all fantastic.
